The days are long, people are spending more time outdoors, and restless teens have the summer off from school. Numerous scholars even suggest that the heat may drive some to crime. In explaining the “heat hypothesis,” Craig A. Anderson says hot temps can increase aggressive motives and behaviors, resulting in 2.6% more murders and assaults in the United States during the summer than any other season of the year.
